This 1900s DC rowhome was left uninhabitable after a devastating fire, presenting a unique opportunity for a complete transformation.
The renovation began with reconfiguring the existing floor plans, introducing a more intuitive layout that better accommodates modern living. The design balances respect for the home’s historic roots with the clean lines and open spaces that define contemporary interiors. Thoughtful architectural updates were made throughout, creating a space that feels both refreshed and timeless.
As part of the full-scale remodel, the project also included a significant structural undertaking: deepening the cellar to create an additional apartment unit.
This new space adds valuable functionality to the property, offering flexibility for rental income or extended family living. Careful attention was paid to maximize natural light and ensure the new unit feels as inviting and livable as the main home. The result is a revitalized rowhome that combines historical character, modern design, and expanded utility into one cohesive, livable space.
